SERIE DEVOTOS
The immersion into a critique of this ancient institution seeks to channel a kind of inverse exorcism, and centers on the notion of Sin. Sin in two dimensions: the sin committed through hypocrisy, and the sin unjustly projected onto its penitents—specifically, onto women.
The woman depicted here is mature and self-assured, rebelling against divine laws. These are women who, fully aware of having been unjustly marked as the source of misfortune, shame, and guilt tied to the flesh, now choose to confront Him in His Palace. They are consciences engraved by the fear of Sin—the very Sin they now hurl back at Him, sometimes with humor, but always with calm and resolve.
The other side of this story is excreted by the source itself—the one who judges, emits, and simultaneously casts sin onto the weak. It is a force that radiates deceit and cunning, burdening others with the anguish of guilt. Sinful behavior in contrast to the righteousness of its own doctrine.
"Render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s, and unto God what is God’s."
But here, there are only Thoughts, Words, Acts, and Omissions—transformed into Images.

«LA SANTA»

Here I stand, before you—without guilt—willing to offer you my bare soul and my bloodied body, as red as the shameless hell you built in your own image and likeness. I pray one last time… but only so I won’t have to meet you.
Know this: “I’m leaving you—and you can keep what’s left of me.” “Te abandono, y puedes quedarte con mis restos”

«LA MERIENDA»

And Eve stepped out of the sacristy, ready to devote some time to herself—ready to enjoy a banana… She had spent her whole life buying and eating apples.
She also needed a well-lit place to paint her toenails. So now, she offers herself as a sacrifice at her own altar—and she is entirely her own.
And she thinks... “I’d rather have a banana than an apple.”

«ROSARIO»
124 x 124 cm
Oil on wood panel
I, Rosa, swear before you that I am happy when I pray, and that the sweetness in your gaze as you look at me while I look at you fills me so deeply, I could never stop looking at you… or devouring you.
Because always... "I pray with all the sweetness I’m capable of."

«VIOLETAS NEGRAS»
124 x 124 cm

Violeta 1: Go get the bread.
Violeta 2: And you get the wine.
Violeta 1: Now we can begin our first mass.
Violeta 2: And we’ll be able to sing “To bread… bread, and to wine… wine.”

«LA PARTIDA»
124 x 124 cm

Ana arrives late, but she has to finish the game. After confession every Thursday at noon, she plays with her friend Enrique. She plays and plays... and frolics—though only in dreams.
And she thinks... “The king of gold doesn’t always win.”

And like a cinematic sequence where there is a past, a present, and a future: to break, to liberate, to change.

«TE HE ABANDONADO»
150 x 110 cm

As an ecclesiastical representative, a bishop in your eyes, I've chosen to return your own incoherence and incomprehension in kind – you who, for so many years, dictated my every move. But now, I abandon you without a trace of regret.
I calmly take my seat, allowing myself to be consumed by a train – a potent symbol of transition and transformation – all while, as you witness, I paint my lips. I will depart, I will transcend, forever loyal to my truest self.
Because this very essence and form merge to powerfully demonstrate, publicly no less, that there is no incompatibility. And so, I walk away in my customary attire and with my authentic identity fully revealed.

«COPÓN»

Please try to be more discreet, Father Vicente. You've waved that red flag one too many times in an attempt to sway me. Anyone can make a poor choice. If you're not more careful, you'll end up poorer than a church mouse.

«SANTA RITA»
150 x 110 cm
Oil on wood panel
Maria, before you go, we should pray for our souls. You know, if we sin and ask for forgiveness, it's taken care of.
Plus, He knows very well that what's given cannot be undone... and so does Saint Rita!
